QR Code Best Practices

A QR code is only useful if it scans. These best practices keep your codes fast and reliable across devices and print sizes.

Design for contrast

Use a dark foreground on a light background. Avoid low-contrast color pairs and never invert to a light-on-dark code unless you have tested it thoroughly.

Mind the size and quiet zone

Print at least 2 x 2 cm (0.8 x 0.8 inches) and leave a clear margin (the "quiet zone") around the code. Crowding the edges is a common reason codes fail to scan.

Keep logos small and test everything

Limit logos to ~30% of the area and rely on high error correction. Always scan the final printed code with multiple phones before a large run.
